    Description/Qualifications

    The Laboratory Supervisor plans and coordinates the function of the Laboratory Department to ensure the effective operation of the day, evening shift and/or the night shift. A key role of this position is to plans, direct and supervise the prioritization and performance of the daily workloads within the department.

     

    Core Functions

    • Performs responsibilities of a staff technologist, setting high standards of performance.
    • Interprets laboratory policies to department staff, analyzes and resolves employee problems and initiates plans to motivate staff and achieve goals.
    • Schedules employees, provides orientation and training programs and performs actions such as disciplinary actions and yearly performance evaluations.
    • Assures that all staff on the shift are properly trained to perform the necessary duties.
    • Acts as a liaison between the laboratory and other departments and their leadership as needed.
    • Personnel complete tests within established turnaround times, audited regularly through the LIS or by other means.
    • Ensure employees understand their role and responsibilities in achieving organizational success by establishing and communicating clear expectations

    Expertise/Background

    • Bachelor’s Degree required. Emphasis on sciences. If Bachelor’s is not in a science field, sufficient course work in the sciences is required to meet CLIA requirements for highly complex testing.
    • Minimum four (4) years of relevant technical laboratory experience.
    • Requires current registration as MLS (ASCP) or equivalent
    • Must be technically competent in all disciplines of the field of medical technology.
    • The position also requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to create an environment of growth
    • Develop and manage an effective plan for the future direction of areas of responsibility
    • Achieve results within budgetary parameters
    • Understand regulatory issues and ensure compliance
