    Description/Qualifications

    The POC & Safety Coordinator is responsible for the Point of Care testing functions throughout the facility, as well as Laboratory Safety Programs.  POCT related activities include the oversight of device selection, regulatory compliance, quality control and proficiency testing, assisting with the training of non-laboratory personnel in conjunction with the Education Department, connectivity development, liaison with nursing staff and the POCT committee, and the oversight of Clinical Services personnel performing POCT.   Safety Officer responsibilities include overall accountability for staff education and compliance with all safety related polices. In conjunction with laboratory leadership, insuring a safe working environment for lab employees.

     

    What you’ll need:

    • Bachelor’s Degree required. Emphasis on sciences. If Bachelors is not in a science field, sufficient course work in the sciences is required to meet CLIA requirements for highly complex testing.
    • Previous experience in POCT is desirable.
    • Minimum of two years of technical laboratory experience in a clinical laboratory required, high volume hospital laboratory is preferred.
    • Experience with a Laboratory Information Systems is required.
    • Must be experienced in the management and review of laboratory quality control programs, as well as exhibit strong collaborative skills.
    • Prior experience as a safety officer is desirable but not mandatory.
    • Current registration as a MT (ASCP) or equivalent (equivalent includes other accreditation agencies such as NCA, AMT, ASMT, etc).

     

    Special Knowledge, skills & abilities:

    • Knowledge of JCAHO, CLIA, CAP, FDA, and AABB regulatory requirements required.  Must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Possesses the ability to convey laboratory concepts to non-laboratory users of POCT.
    • Expected to work in conjunction with nurse managers to maintain the POCT model.
