    As a Food Preparer with Salem Health, your primary role would be to prepare and serve fresh, flavorful, and aesthetically pleasing foods to patients and customers and to provide the expertise that will comply with, or continuously improve upon, the quality of the food and production techniques used.


    Core Functions

    • To bring a sense of pride to the quality of the foods prepared and the service provided
    • To follow proper portioning, service techniques, and leftover utilization to ensure cost effectiveness
    • To clean as you go and continually monitor and comply with sanitation guidelines
    • Ensures accuracy and diet compliance for all patient meals.
    • To transact sales accurately and quickly in a stressful environment
    • To portray a sense of caring and pride to customers, and be "up"
    • Wash dishes and kitchen utensils then return them to the production areas and retrieve dishes from patient units
    • Maintain a clean and safe sanitation environment
    • Monitor temperatures of equipment to ensure proper sanitation takes place
    • To clean as you go and continually monitor and comply with sanitation guidelines
    • Follow recipes and portions accurately for optimal cost effectiveness.                                                                                


    • High School Diploma or equivalent, or 1-year equivalent experience required
    • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a deli assistant, food preparer, diet aide, salad/sandwich maker, or prep cook in either a restaurant, commercial food service operation, or institutional kitchen preferred
    • Current Food Handlers Card required
    • Strong production skills required (fast, efficient, accurate, and clean)
    • Must have disciplined approach to clean as you go and safe food handling practices
    • Must be able to demonstrate exceptional customer service skills
