Description/Qualifications

Your Role With Us:

The BMET 1 & II works under moderate supervision, provides beginning to intermediate experience in the repair, calibration, and maintenance of medical equipment, instrumentation and support systems used in healthcare delivery, often with BMET 2, 3 or Lead oversight. Execute professional-level inventory assessment/audits and preventive maintenance of medical equipment. Provide remedial corrective maintenance and maintain documentation of all service events, tests, and maintenance performed on clinical equipment. Can provide on-the-job training as needed to other BMETs. Often works between IT, Facilities, and medical professional groups in order to implement medical equipment and systems. Assist medical and nursing staff in the use of equipment.

 

Participates in staff on-call rotation.

 

Core Functions:

  • Performs incoming inspections of all medical equipment items entering the system including new, leased, loaned, rented, physician or patient owned.
  • Performs and documents preventive maintenance inspections on assigned equipment to include physical, functional, calibration, and electrical safety checks.
  • Documents all operator induced equipment problems and follow-up corrective activity on work order. 
  • Instructs individuals and groups of equipment users on proper and safe use of equipment on informal ad hoc basis. 
  • Schedules formal in-service training programs, coordinates, and attends vendor training; provides follow-up to vendor training.
  • Research, develop and teach operator training programs as required.
  • Recommends or establishes inventory of replacement parts and accessories for clinical equipment.
  • Collects information on lifecycle of medical equipment/systems, and makes recommendations on replacement.
  • Evaluates and recommends modifications to clinical equipment maintenance per The Joint Commission guidelines and Hospital AEM program.
  • Participates in projects or leads portions of projects providing SME and/or coordination between biomeds to deliver project objectives.
  • Participates in the selection and installation of new clinical equipment/systems.
  • Provides on the job training for fellow BMET’s and contract personnel as necessary.

 

Background/Expertise:

  • Associate’s degree in electronics or biomedical equipment technology is required. (Military biomed/electronics training may be substitute in lieu of AS degree.)
  • BMET I : One (1) year of electronics or biomed experience. Preferred 2-4 years.
  • BMET II: Minimum of five (5) years of biomedical experience, required.
  • CBET/Candidate (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) or can obtain within 2 years of hire date.
  • All Salem Health specific education must be completed upon hire.
  • Ongoing certification within area of expertise required.
  • CCNA, Network +, MCP/MCSE preferred
  • OEM certifications on life safety equipment if maintaining or training is required.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals, routing, applied electronics, circuit analysis troubleshooting, strong mechanical ability, organizational skills, and excellent customer services skills.
  • Experienced with a variety of electronic and diagnostic test equipment, related to quality assurance and/or regulatory requirements for specialty high-end modalities as well as competencies in the use of oscilloscopes, D.V.M.’s and medical equipment analyzers required.
  • Possesses the necessary skills and technical training to perform job duties as assigned.
  • Must be capable of heavy physical work, including lifting, bending, reaching, stooping, pushing, and pulling for long periods of time.

 

 

*$2K sign-on bonus for BioMedical Tech I and $4K sign-on bonus for BioMedical Tech II.  (Must meet qualifications for position and agree to sign-on bonus agreement and payback stipulations)
